Watch Your Waste
About the Project
What is the project?
Waste Segregation in individual homes is close to non-existent in India. Our landfills have a mix of all different types of waste materials - food scraps, industrial waste, metals, biodegradable and non biodegradable wastes to name a few. This is a massive problem, because it not only leads to large heaps and mountains of garbage being formed across the peripheries of big cities, but it slows down the degradation process of the waste that is biodegradable and also prevents recycling of waste materials.
Through this project, we aim to sensitize communities on the importance and need for waste segregation and contacting localities and communities to make this process easily accessible for all.

Why is it important?
When we refuse to reuse, it is the earth we abuse!
How often do we look around and observe an abundance of waste being generated in the absence of a substantial place to get rid of it? It is believed that the majority part of the waste can be reused and recycled while a portion of it can be converted to compost. As a result, waste segregation, which is the process of separating trash into dry and moist categories, is critical. Wet garbage, such as leftover foods, vegetable peels, and other wet waste, should be disposed of in an organic waste converter - a green bin. Dry waste consisting of cans, aluminium foils, metal, glass and paper that could be easily recycled.
The waste collecting process involves a large number of workers. So implementing the separation process ourselves will reduce the chance of cuts and bruises that are faced by the rag pickers. It's always satisfying to witness the good influence on waste reduction and environmental protection.
